So. I am currently house sitting for a family I babysit. They are amazing and I love their kids, so when they went out I was happy to feed their dogs and fish, get the mail, newspapers, etc... This evening I stopped by to do the daily duties... to find cute Nina's betta fish had, well, bit the dust.
They call him (or maybe her, who knows) rainbow fish. I totally panicked. He was upside down lying at the very bottom of the tank. I wasn't exactly sure if he was just napping, so I shook the tank. No moment. There was no reviving this fish from fish heaven. So sad. What do I do?? This scene of course has happened many times in movies. What do I do? Of course I should take the dead fish to Petco and ask for a replica? Right?
Well. I figured lying to a five year old was a bit beneath myself so I came clean and called the homeowners to inform them of the loss of their fish. I am so relieved that I did. Apparently rainbow fish has been a sickly fish as of late. And he is two and half years old. He has a good life. So I don't feel quite as bad. But really. My luck is so bad. He had to die on my watch. Terrible.
RIP Rainbow Fish :/
